About Sultana Barbecue

Somewhere in the middle of England, in the historic county of Staffordshire, there exists a mysterious presence. This mysterious presence, an entity if you like, produces and publishes websites and uploads them to the Internet in the dead of the night. Sometimes in the day too when nobody's looking. Known as Sultana Barbecue (that's us!), our websites, varied in purpose and subject matter, inform, amuse, educate and bemuse people from all over the planet.

We’ve been around a while - nearly as long as the World Wide Web itself. Our journey began in 1999, when Psychic Jim’s first horoscopes appeared online, confusing, delighting and bewildering early web surfers in equal measure. Moving us from astrology to astronomy, Bob the Alien took us on his tour of the Solar System in 2000, followed by Ten Facts About… in 2008. More recently, Century of Cinema launched in 2025, continuing our tradition of long-running, curiosity-led projects.

Sultana Barbecue itself was formed in 2010 as a way of unifying these independent projects under one umbrella. Although they share a common publisher, each site retains its own identity, tone and purpose. Our aim has always been simple: to create websites that people find interesting, entertaining, or ideally, both.

We write, design and publish all of the content across our sites in house, giving us full control over how they look, how they behave and what they contain. Rather than chasing trends, we focus on building things with personality, longevity and room to grow.
